Evangelscape: Spiritual TopographyThe Evangelscape provides a snapshot of six issues related to the spiritual aspect of the social environment, social groups, and social enclaves in the community. These six issues are:
The Evangelscape is
based upon several questions in the 2007 National Consumer Study
of 57,000 households nationwide conducted by the Simmons Market
Research Bureau, Inc. (SMRBI) as indexed against the MOSAIC USA
Lifestyle Segmentation by Experian.
IICM has analyzed the data related to the social
enclaves, social groups, and social environments across the
United States.
The Evangelscape is a major barometer of the spiritual
condition of your community.
The “active” vs.
“inactive” estimates are based on localized estimates
developed by the TheAmericanChurch.org as indexed against the
MOSAIC USA Lifestyle Segmentation.
The “potential religious but not evangelical” category includes not only
mainline Protestants and Catholics who do not consider
themselves to be evangelical, but also adherents to cults and
world religions. The
“spiritual but not
religious” category primarily consists of people who
consider spirituality important – but do not see institutional
evangelical Christianity as having any answers to their quest
for spirituality.
The final category, “non-evangelical and not interested in religion or spirituality”
consists of the group of people for whom religion, Christianity,
and spirituality appears to have no influence.
Taken together, the reports provide a picture of both the
lostness and some of the socio-religious barriers to the spread
of the gospel in the community.
